Harriet is currently pursuing an MSc in Telecommunication Innovation and Technology at Strathmore University, a program run jointly with the Safaricom Academy. She is interested in how ICT can be used for development (#ICT4D), especially mobile technology that is experiencing unprecedented growth in Africa.
Harriet completed her bachelor’s degree in computer science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in December 2010 and graduated in July 2011 with first class honours (summa cum laude).
Harriet has a passion for social media and believes that it can be used to promote awareness for many causes. The power of social media was witnessed in the recent ‘Arab Uprising’ where messages rallying rebels to topple the governments were posted on Facebook and Twitter. Through twitter, for example, Harriet was able to meet President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, while she worked there as an intern. She documents all this on her blog: www.savvykenya.com
Harriet hopes for a brighter future for Africa through technology and hopes to do research in this area for her graduate thesis.
